A report conducted in Auckland, New Zealand finds that top rated ecig are merely as efficient to help smokers quit tobacco as nicotine patches.
The final results were published in prestigious Lancet health journal – View study Documents , add weight to people who feel e-cigarettes ought to be welcomed as smoking cessation devices.
At one of the first randomized, controlled trials on e-cigarettes, 657 smokers were allocated either e-cigarettes, the nicotine patch or nicotine free electronic cigarettes (Placebo). After half a year, 7.8 percent of these using e-cigs abstained from cigarettes, then those using the nicotine patch at 5.8 percent as well as the placebo group at 4.1 percent. There have been very little substantial changes in adverse incidents seen involving the three groups.
Dr Hayden McRobbie from the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit, Queen Mary University, and co-author in the Lancet study, said,
“The effects were encouraging for smokers who want to try different methods to enable them to quit.”
“At six-month follow-up, e cig vapor juice were no less than competitive with the nicotine patch, but participants were more enthusiastic about recommending e-cigarettes to others, in contrast to the patch.
“There are a few obvious explanations why. The electronic cigarette does a much better job of replacing some behavioural facets of smoking that numerous people miss once they quit (e.g. the hand-to-mouth dexhpky09 as well as the sensation of smoke in your mouth and throat), along with delivering nicotine.”
E-cigarettes, with or without nicotine, were modestly good at helping smokers to stop, with a similar achievement of abstinence as with the nicotine patch, and few adverse events. Uncertainty exists concerning the place of vapor cigs in tobacco control, and more scientific studies are urgently necessary to clearly establish their overall benefits and harms at both individual and population levels.
